Pharos K-12
K-12 can be a very hard time for many students trying to find the balance of school, family life, and friends. It is a struggle to fit in, learn how to study, think about the future, fight with parents and siblings, resist peer pressure, etc. This time period is crucial in the development process of a child. All of these unique problems that arise during the development process can put students at-risk of dropping out of school, committing suicide, participating in school violence, abusing drugs and/or alcohol, joining a gang, etc. It is so important for these students to receive the assistance they need from the very beginning of his or her education.
An estimated 1.2 million students failed to graduate from high school in 2008. That is nearly 7,000 dropouts a day or one dropout every 26 seconds.
-Education Week, 2008
This poses a great problem to K-12 schools and their teachers and staff who want to provide the best care for their students and who are obviously very dedicated to educating our next generations. It is hard to provide the guidance that these students need with the currently available resources and the communication barriers that so often exist. Pharos 360 is the solution to these problems in K-12 schools. By identifying the students who are struggling and connecting them to the appropriate resources at the school, it ensures that no student will struggle alone.
Use Pharos K-12 to help your students at a young age, propelling them towards graduation.
What Pharos K-12 will enable your campus to do:
Monitor Response to Intervention (RTI) Evaluated Students
Pharos K-12 supports RTI efforts by seamlessly assisting the multi-level prevention system. Pharos K-12 supports the data schools use to identify students who are at-risk for poor learning outcomes, monitors student progress by tracking and recording records and case notes, and provides a place to store the records of evidence-based interventions. It can also help identify students with learning disabilities by connecting a student’s frontline (parents, peers, teachers, coaches, special ed teachers, etc.) and increasing the communication and collaboration between them.
Teachers, special ed teachers, and counselors can keep track of individual students throughout the RTI process by storing test results, RTI evaluations, RTI specific plans to respond to student needs, classroom performance, etc all in one place—reducing unnecessary meetings and saving time. Pharos K-12 also enables deans, principals, special ed teachers, counselors, tutors, coaches, and/or teachers within “teams” to track student referrals, office visits, etc.
By solely focusing on low academics to pinpoint struggling students, traditional student support systems react too late and overlook many at-risk students who do not show academic signs of trouble. Pharos K-12 proactively identifies these hidden struggling students, increasing the number of struggling students who receive help.
